I was the child with the bright striped socks,
the polka dot skirt, and neon top.
I was the child with the loud, floral blouse,
under a sweater, for around the house.
I was the child who always grinned,
despite the fact i didn't win.
I was the child with wide open arms,
i didnt know to guard my heart.
I was the child who tried oh so hard,
cause fitting in is a difficult art.
I was the child who just wanted to love,
among all the peacocks a dying dove.
I was the child that was forced to lie,
pretending i hadn't learned to despise.
I was the child with wide, open eyes,
trying my best, for i mustn't cry.
I was a child who had broke, to bend
at that point, I was only ten.
