The Trees

Trees shed their leaves,
when they no longer need them,
when they become a burden,
a weight to carry.

You,
seemingly strong and independent,
are the trunk.

And I,
waiting for the pull of gravity and the push of your heart
to send me away,
always prepared to come back,
am the leaves.
