Layla had only told her mother everyday
That two letter word that caused every argument
“No”
“Why not?”
Alice could never understand
She only ever wanted what was best for her daughter
“Why not?”
“Because”
Why couldn’t her mother understand
Layla did not want to be anything her mother wanted
“Because”
“Why you stubborn girl”
Alice was enraged
Why wouldn’t the girl ever do as she said
“Why you stubborn girl
“No”
Layla would not be her mother’s puppet
Layla would not be the person she did not want to be
“No”
