That Girl

I was never that girl.
That girl who smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a week.
That girl who doesn't read for class.
That girl who wakes up 15 minutes before she needs to leave and weighs the pros and cons of not going at all.
That girl who has unprotected sex. With people she doesn't even love, or even like.
That girl who sits in her room and eats ice cream, feeling sorry for herself.
That girl who is afraid to stay here, but just as wary to go home.
That girl who doesn't even know what grade her little brothers are in, let alone what their favorite colors are.
I was never that girl...
Inside.

The author's comments:
We don't always turn out the way we imagine ourselves to be. And that's not always such a bad thing. Sometimes the choices we make can shock ourselves, not to mention our mothers. But it's important to embrace yourself and own the choices you make.

This poem was amazing! It was something a lot of today's teens can relate to. This work of art moved me, and I'm sure it'll move others.8)
