What was I doing there?
Other than falling, I mean'
I didn't belong in this world of drums and marching
But that all slipped away
Into echoes
Just like my black sock slipping off as I hit the hard ground
Unexpected CLASH
Among the boom digga digga boom digga digga'
One white foot in a swirling sea of black
Marking me like a scarlet letter emblazoned on my chest
Gasp
A collective gasp echoing
Amidst the distant boom digga digga'

A sudden brilliant spotlight on me
What was I doing there?
In that moment
As the bitter humiliation held me to the ground
Stronger
Than any Gravitational Force
With a Red Flame of humiliation and fear
Ignited on my face
Hidden by a twisted gorilla mask
One white foot in a swirling sea of black

'She's up! She's up!'
The thought rang out in the echoes
Focus zeroed in on one small speck of color
In a teeming audience
One tiny cymbal player as seen by one small speck
Keep praying
Keep praying
That the judges will be merciful
That she wouldn't blame herself
If only that one white foot in the swirling sea of black would disappear
Disappear into the echoes
One tiny cymbal player as seen by one small speck.
