I am the smooth, supple stroke of a marker
Pigment like Georgia peaches gracing the paper with its presence
Turning an empty world that reflects all light
Into an euphoria of endless possibilities

I am a Wisconsin summer
Warm and shining like the world bathed in gold,
Turning from the calm of a humid August afternoon
To the violent typhoon of a mid-June thunderstorm

I am a well-loved book
With a faded cover whose colors have decreased with time
With dog-eared pages that have been stained with cranberry juice and memories
With a texture like nights spent under a blanket, flashlight in hand, and eyes straining at the pages

Occasionally, I am a polka dot dress
Bursting with boldness and personality
Catching your eye as I swirl down the street
Leaving you dazzled and dazed
Like I was just a dream
