Lights and sirens surround,
I can’t feel a thing.
Figures rush through blurring vision.
I see red.
Red is everywhere, I’m covered.
Trying to move, nothing happens.
Seeing the broken world around me.
Glass and black bags covering the road,
What happened?
More red appears,
Then blackness overtakes, obscuring the sounds, leaving nothing.
CLEAR! Beep, beep, beep.
Doors screech open.
More beeping, more voices, more everything..
Shaking sounds, worrisome tears, I hear them all.
Then I hear those three words.
Every ounce of pain floods my body.
All I hear now, are those three words,
Repeated over and over in my head.
How could this be?
They pound against my chest,
1, 2, 3, Breathe! 1, 2, 3, Breathe!
Tears stream, leaving a pool of tears on my cheeks.
Then those three words,
Time of death.
I see you, my heart stops.
You’re just beyond my grasp.
Your hand locks with mine, fading out together.
I hear someone screaming my name…
Time freezes.
I can see her face, its pale, stunned, unable to catch air.
Our eyes meet,
Fingers untangle, and you disappear from sight.
Gasping for air, I hear it.
Beep, beep, beep.
I’m back!
Her hand touches mine,
My eyes break free.
Looking into her deep blue eyes,
Hearing her gentle voice.
She is my angel,
Keeping me safe, loving me deeply.
Giving me the strength to survive.
I softly whisper my own three words,
“Thank you, mom…”
