i woke from night feeling dreams
or memories reluctant to stay,
begin to slip from perception.
i tried and grasped
with my subconscious claws.
for all my struggles the memory fell to shreds,
but I remembered the bright
pressing on my sightless pupils.
and I heard not the murmurings described
in surfacing, but structured resonances.
those sounds that were meant to daze me;
make me want and behold horrors
tempted curiosity not appetite.
I slunk to trapped lows
till the bright,
the voices could find me in night.
