The White Doe
The white doe sat alone
Yet surrounded
Restricted
Yet free
Anguished
Yet hopeful
The other does played without bound
Yet he remained still
They called him to drink the cool, clear water
Yet he remained still
They called him to eat the lush strawberries
Yet he remained still
For what they saw was not what he had seen
And what they had believed was not what he perceived.
