Bissel's Ride
The Minute Men were a bunch of guys,
wishing England, and the colonies to sever ties,
Isreal Bissel was one of those men,
I will tell you his story, with this quill pen.
One warm night, on a fine spring's eve,
of his wife and children, Bissel took leave,
He saddled his mare, and upon her lept,
dashing through the night as America slept.
As he galloped through the street, many heard his shout-
"The Redcoats are coming! The Redcoats are out!"
Rushing through the cities, through the towns and streets,
Through meadows and cornfields, not stopping for treats.
Many cities he traversed that day,
Saving the colonies, whatever you might say,
Yet his horse lived not, dying at his side,
not surviving her legendary ride.
