to be different

You ask me, who am I

And I say, I am different

I am different because
unlike most people
I don't need to be married
To feel complete
I don't need a partner
To be happy
I don't need children
To feel satisfied

I don't feel the need to have sex
though my peers say that I should
I don't want to become labeled
and yet I feel branded
I don't want to be indistinguishable
yet seems i'm blending in
I don't want lots of money
cuz I know it
won’t make me happy

I'm different because
I'd rather be beaten
Than harm my own flesh,
because
I'd rather have pets
Than 3 screaming children
because
I'd rather be giving back
Instead of hating the community
That raised me
because
I'd rather be agnostic
Than choose a religion to obey and reside in

For
I am a child expected to make
adult decisions
I am a turtle expected to stand naked
without a shell
I am a sheep
in wolf's clothing
I am one thousand screaming voices
that don't make a sound

What it all comes down to is
that  life is short
there is no one perfect way
for every human being
to live their
fragile lives

I'm not afraid to stand out and
be different
are  you?
