"You have to write whichever book it is that wants to be written. And then, if it's going to be too difficult for adults, you write it for children." Madeleine L'Engle

lights flicker, flutter, flash, fail

blackout [loud silence]

candles lit: chase away creeping darkness

but, always creeps back

rain pounds-wind howls

flash: lights! jubilation (short-lived)

flicker, flash, false hopes, fail

blackout [loud silence]

cold numbs: fire melts

lanterns move-from-room to room

shifting shadow: grasping at smoke

no time- night stretches limbs

cold clouded sun. no solace

blackout [loud silence]

Love the "loud silence". Your poetry is funny and smart and makes me think over and over, "That is SO true!"
