Unspeakable evil
Terror stricken hearts
Men robbing innocence of purity
Leaving mother and child in the dark

Lives destroyed in fury and hate
The shadow of death
Coming, lingering, waiting
What is there left to lose
What is left to be taken?

Hated because of who they were
Despised for breathing, living, loving
Whispers of sweet sorrow
Like a mothers lullaby

Hoping and praying to see the sun rise
Wondering if there will be a tomorrow
Trying to remember life's sweet joys
Knowing your loved ones are alive

The strength one must find to continue on
When faint memories flood the mind
The realization of your shattered world
The pain of those gone and those left behind

Through torture and broken faith
A tear manages to fall
To remember the worlds darkest night
The burden placed on million
The light loss ' never to forget but to
Speak up and be heard when all others
Cower down

In the shadows of death and the thought
That all men are equal the injustice shown to
Those who had done no wrong nor deserved
To be slain ' the diary of a young girl shows the
Truth behind so many's pain

The author's comments:
I wrote this after reading the Diary of Anne Frank. Her words touched me and made me feel outraged at the thought that after all the battles and the obstacles overcome in the past, and the thought that all men are created equal, one man, Hitler, could do such a thing to another human being.

Amazing poem. Really captures the emotion within that tragic time in history. Keep writing.
