A Walk in the Trees

January 26, 2009
By Allie Almanzar, Las Cruces, NM

A bright sliver moon glimmered in our eyes
The trees whispered their secrets to the wind
We were shrouded in darkness’ disguise
Youthful impulsiveness pulsed through our minds

Deep green boughs layered up to the sky
His lips gently caressed mine
A desire so strong I could not deny
Slowly our hands intertwined

The universe’s story was painted above
Pictures of my life played through my head
And we thought of all the possibilities undreamed of
Now was the time not to look back, but look ahead
