Triple Crown
Triple crown
We were at the Holland pool in Michigan,
at the 14 and under State Swimming Championships.
Today was the last day,
my last race,
the 50 breaststroke.
I pulled my swim cap over my ears
Snap!
A sliver of the silicone swim cap fell to the floor.
I wasn’t panicking,
I was calm
Next, I saw a Great Lake Tritons team coach come up to me.
A green GLT(Great Lake Tritons) team swim cap slipped on my head.
I climbed onto the starting block
It was stable and strong
My ears twitched,
waiting for the gun to go off
The starters gun drove me into to the water
Silence.
Space.
My hands were grasping the water like silk
The water was smooth and soft
I accelerated forward with every kick and stroke,
feeling the water as I continued in my race.
I felt the wall.
I peered up at the scoreboard,
and saw an unimaginable goal of winning all three breaststroke events,
the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke
Reached.
Achieved.
I was three time state champion in all the breaststroke events
All of the 5 am practices and intense workouts were worth it.
Hard work really does pays off.
Everyone calls my wins, my triple crown.

I hope people will get a lot of thing out of this narrative poem, but mainly, I hope that in the end, the message of strength and determination shines through. When my swim cap broke, I stated that I was calm. Knowing that panicking would mess with my mind, I held on. This shows strength even when you are about to fall into millions of pieces. When I won the race in the end, I proved that determination and hard work pays off. Overall, work hard, dream big, and stay strong, and you will go far.
