The tube is speeding over the glass-like surface of the lake,
giant waves straight ahead.
Lauren, Emma, and I scream,
eager to fly over them.

Holding on for dear life,
the bright red tube approaches the waves.
We jump the first one.
We fly up to the sky,
and drop back down to the crystal water.
Safe and sound.
Not for long.

The next wave’s even larger.
We soar higher,
gliding through the air,
swaying to the side,
landing right-side up.

But then the third.
The worst.
Practically a tsunami in our small eyes.
We shoot up the wave,
soaring through the air,
wind whipping through our hair,
screaming at the top of our lungs,
grasping the wet handles,
squinting through the breeze.

And in a flash
my head collides with the icy cool water,
my body submerged in the lake.
I break through the surface,
heart racing,
head pounding.
We did it,
We survived the wave we thought would kill us.
We survived our worst nightmare.
But what if it’s not such a nightmare anymore?
