Ballade of the Fallen

Their hearts beat with each step they take
All of this time and for what to just be the prey
This reasoning all of it is just a fake
Soon it will be time once again to enter the heat and the fray
They have said before “general we have been away”
Voices angry they shout on the battlefield they are sore
Will the sun ever shine hope on them again all they want is that ray
They fight and die for you someday hoping for more

Times continue in these conditions still their hearts ache
Now their hair is starting to grow gray
All they want is to go home to their children and be able to rake
The fields they once sowed or with their wives and lay
Beside them like they used to back when life was so gay
These are all just illusions from the truth they know this to not be anymore
They shout again on the battlefield why general why they say
They fight and die for you someday hoping for more

Now time passes again today will be the chance to make
A new destiny for now is a new day
a new life they will finally break
the chains that have held them so close and in delay
from their families wishing to be able to allay
now they come those awful voices they hear the roar
of battle again piercing their ears they have made their way
They fight and die for you someday hoping for more

My dear king will you take my hand so I can bring you its been arrayed
I want to take you here to this place decorated with the bodies of the fallen this is the tour
Now don't you wish you would have seen this king maybe then you would have delayed
They fight and die for you someday hoping for more

This poem was written for a english project. It was a form I got handed called the Ballade so I decided to take a dare and write one. This poem took a long time to write and alot out of me but I feel as though it came out great.
