"Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens."--J.R.R. Tolkien

Why do you mourn, why do you weep
For a body you haven’t lost?
You say you want to be “beautiful”,
But have you considered the cost?
“Why can’t I be pretty too?” is all I hear you say
What could have possibly happened, child,
To make you think that way?
You never thought that when you were young
You were never too big or too small
A part inside of your brain has snapped,
Or snapped within us all.
You live in a home that’s not lacking of food
Yet you let your meals go to waste
Whatever happened to my sweet little girl,
So proud of cleaning her plate?
Who ever told you your hips are too wide?
Why do you believe them?
Children aren’t born with all these opinions
All you’re fed now is big, fat lies
My baby, why do you eat them?
Did you wake up one day with this new idea:
You’re ugly, fat and sad?
Your place at the table is so empty now
I think, is it I who turned you so bad?
You should be out, enjoying your life
Not counting lines on a scale
It’s times like this I remind myself—
It’s not that you’re selfish, you are truly ill
But no, you ARE selfish
My thoughts have come clear
You look at your body, scream “Why am I here?”
But what about me!  Your family, your friends
Kinds in poor homes, whose starvation CAN’T end?
Is your appearance more important, really?
Why can’t you just see, why can’t you just hear me!
There’s a billion beautiful women out there
“Perfect” bodies, as light as air
But what you don’t see behind the scenes
Is photoshopping, lies and cheats
They’re fooling you dear, why can’t you see?
A cardboard woman, her morals confused
Please, my baby, don’t let her be you.
