Our Guardian Angel

I can imagine you running,
The wind becoming your ally.
I can imagine you playing,
Being both friend and foe in one game.
I can imagine you barking,
Like every person at the door is a danger you need to protect us from.
Imagine these things, I can do.
But imagine you gone, I cannot.
Physically, yes, you are gone,
I can no longer pet you behind the ear,
Or get lost in the never ending fog of your blind eyes,
But spiritually, you are not.
You will always be there to watch us.
You will always be there to protect us.
You will always be there.
You are no longer our guardian,
You are our guardian angel.

This poem is about our family dog, Luke. My family had owned Luke sinse he was a puppy. I wrote this three days after he was put down April 21, 2008. He lived to be 16 years old. Our family loved and still loves him, he was the perfect dog. I'll always miss him, even if he's not really gone.
