Pure Love

I sit here writing this poem
My heart aching
My soul breaking
People are dying today
As WE speak
Drawing a knife to their chest
a gun to their head
or a rope to their neck.
You let them
what else can you do
Speak up?
Talk to them?
Love them?

(Slam poetry)
What if I told you they are just like you, a kid who wants to get  through school, a kid who doesn’t want to be a kid anymore, a kid whose wrists bear deep scars, a kid who could never fall in love, a kid so afraid to fall in love he thought he would be taken advantage of, a kid who thought he would be abused. This isn’t love, at least not the way love should be.

Love is when you are with someone who makes you happy, love is when you care about someone, love is when you have someone’s back, love is when you won’t ever leave their side because all you care about is them, love is the air in the atmosphere, with no color, no pigment at all, perfectly clear, and pure just like love.

Why do we live in a society controlled by anger and frustration where love is not prevalent, where just a few people encourage others to commit suicide. This is not the first time and it won’t be the last. Stand with me here, as I speak, in memory of those who lost their lives, in memory of those who would go so far, just past the edge, just to be gone forever. Let’s unite as the people of the world who do not tolerate mocking. Let’s be the change this world needs for now and forever. Let’s be the ones who love others unconditionally whether they are black, white, gay, straight, dumb, smart, rich, poor. Love is unconditional it knows no boundaries, no limits, love is pure, love is love. This is the year 2015, when what seemed couldn’t be, became a reality.
