Saying Goodbye

Saying goodbyes
while loading the van,
and old lady stumbles out the door,
pursuing the baby in my mothers arms.

Her face of fury,
resentment in her eyes,
aims her lifeless arm
beginning the brawl.

Shock paralyzes
every bone, fear in every eye,
confusion fills the air
hatred in my mothers eyes.

Grandma is first to thaw
pursuing my mother
once again scrambling
to her feet, everyone steps back.

Mother screams in horror
dad rushes to her side
shielding her, from
our vicious grandma.

This is a childhood memory of mine. Nobody got seriously hurt and my grandma has never acted like that again.
