Where I Am From

January 6, 2009
By Alyssa Masters, Marion, IL

I am from dinosaur chicken nuggets,
steamy cooked carrots,
and hot dog eating contests.
I am from sleeping with Simba.
throwing my jelly frog,
and my Michael Jordan jersey.
I am from Gula Gula Island,
the Power Rangers and All That.
I am from Backstreet Boys,
NSYNC, Brittany Spears, 98°,
and Christina Aguilera.
I am from a ghostly neighborhood
with trees for the children
and fences for the cows.
I am from my never give up grandma Masters,
my soccer idol Mia Hamm
and my cousin Kaci as a sister.
I am from my dad yelling “try harder”
“you’re not good enough”
and my mom yelling “grow up”
“life’s hard” and “because I said so”.
