Peace of Sleep

I close my eyes and wait for the peace of sleep to take me,
But the darkness doesn't come
so I'm left there lying numb.
The pain it gets worse
But it's the pain that i can stand.
It's the droning on and on
that driving me mad.
Stuck here by myself
in a world that I don't understand.
I've got no pen and paper
Just a memory like sand
thats draining ever slowly
to a bottomless land.
I never need to worry,
all that's being done
by the mothers and their babies
both sucking on their thumbs.
