The Luck of the Pennies

If you’re walking in the street
And you see a shiny speck
Pick it up and you might find
That there is luck inside it yet

Now if it’s just a sequin
Or something of that sort
Do not pick it because
Luck in those run short

Now if you are wondering
Of what it is I speak
I’m saying pick up pennies!
For their luck lasts for weeks!

Just because they’re worth one cent
Doesn’t mean they can’t be important to you
You can do much with these small tokens
Let me name a few

You can take the penny that you find
And put it in your piggy bank
Or you can throw it in a well
To make a wish where other pennies sank

All these pennies are different
Some are shiny, some are not
Others may not look like pennies
But there’s still luck inside them no matter what

The author's comments:
I wrote this peice for two reasons: one, for others to read it and to see, not just that there's luck in pennies, but that there's luck all around, sometimes you just have to find it; and two, to give people a sense of nostalgia. When you read this you can't tell you me you don't picture yourself as a little kid running to pick up a penny and not waiting to get home and put it in your piggy bank. Poems that remind you of the good things in life like what its like to be a kid just make you happy. I hope my poem makes people happy.

This is a very pleasent poem. However, I must say that the rhythm needs work. It started out well, but got choppy about half way through. I liked the mood of the poem and I hope you continue to write and improve upon yourself!
