How can we live
in this world full of hate?
I got people in my ear sayin’
“It’s just our fate”
People on the street corners
starvin’ and dyin’
Children in their rooms
hurtin’ and cryin’
How can we let life
go on like it is
And turn around and ask,
“Where’re my frienz?”
They prob’ly got drunk
at a party and drove
They prob’ly got high
and overdosed
Remember when they said,
“Oh, this is the shhh—“
Then they smoked a blunt,
or drunk, drove, and got hit?
How can we live
in this world full of hate?
It’s your choice that makes the difference,
not our fate!!

So, Make a Difference,
Live Above the Influence

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece on the 23rd of October after listening to my school principal talk to the entire student body about how ashamed he was to have such ignorant teenagers in his care at a drug-free pep rally. None of the students had listened to the warnings given by multiple speakers of great reputation and it inspired me to send a warning from a fellow student out to all teens who consider the wrong side of life.
