Beyond a Gaze

I await this swollen dawn
(Struggle of skin and sanity)
To breach this subtle surface
To breathe this virgin air
A most demented refuge
This placid hell I seek
Yet before it I fall

The author's comments:
I composed this piece after a rather heinous rendition of a vampire nightmare. The poem is meant to convey the emotional war waging in one's head upon the realization that they will no longer be human.
