Too many nights
Of lonesome depression
Have etched the new lines upon my face
I surrender to my heart

I surrender to the pain
That is all I must give in to
For it is all that my soul holds
I cannot escape to see you

I surrender to my dignity
It is obvious it’s taken over
Not a speck of rebel left in me
There was nothing to gain

No sense can be made
from this jumble of hurt
All I hear is I surrender
A white flag, swaying pompously in the wind.

well done but its a little depressing if u continue to produce depressing work you'll end up as Edgar Allan Poe (The Famous Poet that was tortured for all his sins) If you choose the remain a sad sack then i guaranty you'll be as good Edgar Allan Poe but if you become more cheerful, you have good potentials, you can be almost as good as William Shakespeare lighten up dude

I think it shows a profound sense of compassion and the understanding of human suffering. What is the experience that influenced this poetic expression?

Keep writing. You have much to share.
