my mind is elsewhere, my thoughts
are scattered
my words are spoken, my body battered
my wings are tattered and my arms
are heavy
my heart is strong but my mind’s not ready
her eyes swirled like so many planets
my guilt so strong that I can’t stand it
this life is dark, but she was brighter
all my life I’ve been a fighter
now a lighter burns toward the sky
but please don’t weep for a wounded soldier
as the days grow long and the world
grows colder
still I hold her within my mind
but I must march on, because so does time
