Luckless Child
A little boy covered in dirt
Wipes his tears with the seam of his shirt
His shoes are worn and far beyond holes
He leans against a shaky pole
Quickly he looks up as a stranger goes by
The man looks away when he catches his eye
Why am I here
Thinks the lone child
Why has no one seen me
After this long while
My life is unfair
And so it is clear
This poor little boy
Will stay at this pole
For many more years
