Defiance

December 23, 2008
By William O'Hearn, Deep River, CT

A gust of wind ruffles the cat tails
All around me the world is cold
Fall has kissed the pond and bestowed
Her frigid blessing
All is changed ‘sept for the cat tails
They alone seem immune
They move as happily in the cold breeze as in the summer sun
Their defiance of the cold is refreshing
Even in this frozen place some solace can be found
