I am a puppet, an entertainer,
Who will dance a show for others.
They have a jolly good time,
And laugh out of amusement.

I am a puppet, an instrument,
To work for all those around me.
To put a smile on their face,
All at my own expense.

I am a puppet, who cannot tell lies
Who cannot speak, and who cannot think.
I am not real, I am not alive,
Just the ghost of another smile.

I am a puppet, a pawn,
Whose strings move toward destruction.
I was a tool, just a factor,
Just part of an equation.

And when my strings are thrown into the quicksand,
I will struggle against the strong ties, but they are now part of me.
I cannot cry for help, for my speech was gone long before.
I struggle and I sink, slowly into the sand.
I can make them smile still, because I was their tool.
To them I had no life before I was tossed in,
But I certainly have none now.
