Fighting Through The Hard Times
Wake up in the morning, knowing it’s all the same
Mom going to work a ten hour shift
Serving people food and making drinks
Brother’s neglecting the beautiful life he created four years ago, refusing to grow up
Sister following her sibling’s footsteps to failure
Father that hasn’t been around for thirteen years
Who is thirty-eight years old and lives the party life
A niece that has no idea why both parents are absent from her life
But walks around with her blue eyes open to the world without a care
Going to school five days a week
Then heading straight to a job that I hate,
A job that I can’t even afford to KEEP
Eighteen years old struggling to pay my bills and still trying to earn a good education
Striving to be the first of the entire family to make it past ninth grade
Furthermore, the first walk down the isle and turn a tassel to the left
Experiencing bumps in the road
Fighting to hold my head high through times of despair
Knowing I can make it..
Simply because every voice said, “You can’t”
