The Northwoods
The car eases to an end.
I unbuckle myself and hop out,
proud of my new skill.
Trailing my parents,
I stumble barefoot
through the Great Northwoods.
Evergreens brush my soft young face
as the dirt creeps up
between my toes.
The trail comes to an end.
Now stretching before me
are the seemingly endless shores
of Lake Superior.
Hot sand sears my little feet
as I dash to the water,
hoping to ease the pain.
I am then submerged into the Lake
which awaits my return
in northern Wisconsin.
