No Friends to Say
I had my lunch,
But nowhere to sit.
I had many people,
But no one to talk to.
I had my book,
But nowhere to read.
And all because of the new school year.
No friends to say, “Come and sit by me.”
No friends to say, “Guess what happened today?”
No friends to say, “What book are you reading?”
Not until the next day.
When a friendly smile,
And a welcoming hand,
The words, “Hello.” and “How are you?”
Passed the lips of my new friend.
