For Mom

I see the world,
Just not as you see it.
The sun shines just as bright here,
Blinding me,
Making it hard to think.
The darkness
Does not bring sadness and fear,
But silence.
Peace
Where thoughts can travel
Uninterrupted
Through the too-filled
Space
Of my mind.
Nothing is forever,
Except a single moment,
Constant as the thrumming of the ocean.
I don't cry.
Because they are here.
Their smiles and their voices,
Their laughter drifting on the breeze.
They are a part of the earth
That breathes beneath our feet.
It is why I try
So hard
For so long
To protect it.
I don't understand myself
The way I can understand
Others.
It's hard to see them for what they are.
I try to avoid it.
And when things get to be
Just a little too much
It's not the anger
Or the fear
That sends me crawling
To the "dark abyss".
It's the sense of
Comfort
The absolute perfection
Of me, myself and I
In the space I have created
Of all my favorite things:
Memories, Music, photographs
And the ever-changing moon,
Shedding just enought light
Through this open window
For me to see
My pen.

Part of the beauty of a poetry is knowing that the meaning of the written word and be interpreted differently...by different people...and still be a thing of beauty.

Katie, This is such a beautiful piece of writing. There are not many people on this planet that are simply happy with the person they are...but it seems that I've found at least one. Keep writing:)

Katie, As I read your poem I kept anticipating the ending. So you - "the pen". It has become your paintbrush. Keep up the great work.

Someday Katie, maybe you'll stop me and say,"Would you like to talk about what I wrote?" If you do I will, if not, keep doing what you're doing. The world needs people who see truth.

Katie, I have enjoyed reading your writings and know your writings are bringing pleasure to many people. You have always been a lovely young girl and now have turned into a lovely young lady.
