The Broken

November 27, 2008
By Mandy Pike, Ottawa, ZZ

Down into the depths of the unknown I travel
Farther than time or space itself
To the darkest place where I shall come to rest
Shelter myself from the cold, hard stares of others
Forget all of the hurt, forget all of the pain
Forget all of the shameless lies that surround me
Follow the untrodden path to where the soul keeps a secret-
A light that is meant only for the silent, the shattered, the broken...

The author's comments:
This poem was written during a difficult time that I went through after being attacked and raped last November. It was written as a means to reach out to and inspire other victims of sexual assault or rape and to give them a little bit of hope.
