ode to the asian pear

November 25, 2008
By Nazareth Craig, Smithsburg, MD

there's a happy angel fish
swimming in my cup
it's time to take my pills
and i want to stop
i want to eat all the bones
but there are holes in my mouth
it's where my teeth used to be
they've all rotted out.

I'm a young and pretty thing
My organs splayed on a tray
I gave every angel an engagement ring
bribing my way into hell
Too bad too bad
Oh well oh well

there's a happy poison
swimming in my blood
it's time to get dressed
but I can't get up
I want to offer you my throat
but you can't make my body bleed
Oh, you and your recycled tote
You're so very useless
with all my loving greed

I'm a young and pretty thing
My organs splayed on a tray
I gave every angel an engagement ring
bribing my way into hell
Too bad too bad
Oh well oh well
