My breathing is loud and harsh in my throat,
Music blares into my ears from my earbuds,
So loud I can barely hear my legs screaming,

But I don’t think of that,
The only thing I do think of,
Is how proud I’ll feel once I’m done,

Sure I could give in,
I could slow down or take a break,
But what is the point of starting,
If I’m not going to give my all?

Why waste the energy if I’m just going to quit?
Why give up when I know that victory is so close?

That is like climbing three fourths of a mountain,
And then turning around and going home,
Without seeing the view from the top of the peak,
And only sore muscles to show from it,

So I just keep running,
And I don’t even think of giving up
