When life gets hard and hopes grow dim,
And torn we are from limb to limb,
Remember that there's something more
Than merely icy, private war.

In reaching up, we'll grasp the light,
And reaching out, release its might.
Perfecter of our faith and dreams,
His light can burn through all, it seems.
Through heavy yokes and steel chains,
He extricates our grips and pains.

Now free from bonds of mortal vice
We'll stretch our wings and roll the dice
To love the world and lend a hand,
To bring the light to every land

Or concentrate the light in rays,
In common acts and quiet ways
To flash a smile, dry a tear,
To speak a word of love or cheer.

In daily ups and downs of life,
In happiness or pain and strife
We'll let his love illuminate
Amidst the war and sin and hate.
