Ignored Innocence

By , South Plainfield, NJ
Chop, chop, chop.
Drip, drip, drip.
Sounds from the kitchen
travel to us, ignored.
The smells of chicken and peas
(such homey smells)
leave him unbothered.
Water drips from my lashes but
he remains unbothered.
After all, I’m only six,
and six year olds cry often.
Especially when
they get pushed back
onto the couch
without a care, for innocence.
