After we finished our lunches and juice boxes
you led me over to the jungle gym
where the teacher could not see us.
I was not afraid. We were barely four years old.
I remember the aroma of the fresh mulch.
Warm day, soft sun touching our faces
Our innocence glowed around us like
a halo glows around the head of an angel
You pressed your lips to mine—damp, delicate, developing
Giggles followed the intimate exchange
Thirteen years later we finish what we started
