Stand Up Instead Of Down

They hold the strings of common men
They let them loose and that is when
The true demons within come out
Come out to play with every doubt
That comes with our imperfections
And follows with quick and bland rejections
Average Joes show their true colors
When they suffer through the fires
That the demons summon in our heart
When light and love are far apart
Trust is broken in our midst
And through suggestion we raise a fist
Knives are stabbed through the back
To show the strengths that we lack
Win or loss, or just a tie
Means nothing if won though a lie
Hope is symboled by the peaceful dove
Though what we need now is pure love
Cuz we are fighting a hopeless war
And our American alliance has finally tore,
Has tore apart the American way
The way that’s followed by sweet decay
Of the body in the honored ground
With flowers and tears all around
So must we answer the final call?
I fear it leads to our last fall
Fall of our hopes and of our dreams
Brought together by thread and seams
So I’ve decided to stay in town
Cuz today I’ll stand up instead of down

The author's comments:
This poem was inspired by the thought of how all our soldiers go to war for such a great cause, and they even put their own selves in danger for their beliefs. So this is my thoughts on how we should be like them and stand up for what we believe in even if we suffer for it, because no belief or dream is too small.
