There is no place like alone.

I woke up smiling that morning
Something I haven't done in years
Today is such a happy day
So, for me, will be no tears

I run downstairs just to find
That no one is awake
This year I will make them proud
Everything will go without a mistake

I walk quietly upstars
To climb into the attic
The only noise is in my parent's room
The t.v playing static

I bring down a few boxes
And on my Christmas tree,
I find a place for all the ornaments
Hanging them up perfectly

I place some presents underneath
Making sure they all look right
I've been so excited about today!
I didn't sleep a wink last night!

I walk over by the stair case
And, by the cookies, I place the letter
I'm sure things will go great this year
I have a feeling things will turn out much better!

I reach into the last box
And grab the string of lights
I walk up the staircase to hang them up
Making sure that they are tight

I look over to my parents room
I hear them waking up!
I wrap the other end around my neck
Finally felt that happiness, smile, and then jump!

They read the letter on the table
"I hope this will make you proud..
Mommy, Daddy! I did this myself
What do you think of me now?"

The author's comments:
I didn't put my school name because I was pulled out of school for the reason that I wrote things like this at the age of 10.

I'm not going to tell you what I hope you get out of this "poem", or what it means. Your original feelings when you read other's work are a big part of it all.
I honestly hope none of you can relate to this.. I wish I didn't..
None of my work has ever been published anywhere because its been too dark and "taboo". For the longest, I hid it and wouldn't let anyone know I wrote it. This is courage.. Even if it doesn't even make it to the website.
I hope others find this same courage. I wish I could have found it sooner.
