Dreaming Wide Awake...

October 23, 2008
By Corey Everly, Davidsville, PA

Even now with tired eyes,
My mind rests releasing a sigh.
Somehow, I am pressing on,
I break forth from tortured dawn.

While anguish lashes,
And pain I feel,
Your presence never will be near.

I want to seize the night with you,
Make my childish dreams come true.
Only key that fits my heart,
Empty me from struggling dark.

I poured out my bronze,
Unto your gold.
I sat and waited,
But you never got old.

O great mystery,
Seems to me,
My soul bereft,
Of nothing but thee.
