Flower

There was a boy

With a pretty flower
And when he looked at it
It made him smile
And when he laughed at it
It made him sad
But because it made him smile

He never let go

There was a boy

With a budding rose
And when he tickled it
Its petals spread wider
And when he whispered to it
It kept his secrets
When he threw it against the wall

It never cried
And because it never cried

He never let go

There was a boy

With an open lilac
And when he screamed
It never heard him
And when he killed
It never provided sympathy
When he raped
It never forgave
When he cried
It never listened
But because it never heard him

He never let go

There was a boy

With a wilting orchid
And when he had nightmares
It was too tired to wake him
And when he looked at it
It made him sad
And when he bashed himself against the wall
It didn’t stop him
And when he forgave it

It silently died
And because he couldn’t wake up

He had to let it go

I'd like to think this poem is about stages of life. Cycles, confusion, realization, analysis, hope, dreaming. It's really up to interpretation, though. As is everything.
