I gave you a box
labeled handle with care
very fragile
but i trusted you with it
i hoped you would protect it
keep it free from harm
but you took that box
and you stabbed it twice
i shot you a look as i took it back
only to leave it in you care again
not even five steps away you dropped it
crushed and confused
i took it back
a few sleepless nights keeping the box all to myself
and then you stole it
you handled it oh so very tenderly
leaving me in a euphoric state
until you smashed it
tearing me off my place on cloud nine
the box tattered and torn
meant to be left unopened and untouched
thrown on the flames
to serve as nothing more than kindling to keep you warm
as the fire raged
the box began to fall apart
as the sides fall out
you start to think
to ask yourself
What was in that box??
as the content of the box roll into the fire
i stumble clutching my chest
i had trusted you with my heart
stabbed smashed and smoldering it sits at your feet
you took my heart and destroyed it
along with my life
