Once upon a time
there was a little fox
the foxy fox was very foxy
but he was stuck in a box

So the fox pounded and pounded
but he couldn't get out of the box
he got so frustrated he punched the box
the box retaliated, and hurt the paws of fox!

Now the fox is sad
and wants to cry!
but the farmer can't hear him anyway
so he gave a long sigh

That night somebody was knocking on the box
this so excited the little fox
Are you there? asked a travelling snake
Yes I'm here! can you bring over some rocks?

The snake brought some fine little rocks
The foxy little fox needed to open the box
Open this box, with those little rocks
Let me out, and I will be your best friend!

The snake listened to the fox, and smashed the rocks
against the box, to save the foxy fox
It was very tiring, but the fox was now out
The snake was very happy to see the fox free

Then the snake said
I saved you, do you not see
We used to be enemies, but now let's be friends
a snake-and-fox friendship between you and me?

Of course, said the fox, but I'm hungry now
A plough can grow crops and grow us food
So I need you to get me a plough
Get me a plough, and I'll make some food

So the snake went and found a farmer
She bit the farmer and stole his plough
With the plough she returned, to find the fox
but the fox was once again stuck in a box

Help me, snake! A farmer captured me
Don't worry, fox! I'll save you
The snake brought over some fine little rocks
tired she was, but she smashed the box

Out of the box smiled the happy little fox
Now I can make you some warm happy food
The snake smiled back, and asked the fox
Can I take a nap? I'm in a tired mood

Of course you can, smiled the happy fox
I'll dig some crops while you sleep
When you wake up, I'll give you a treat
And so the snake went to sleep

When the snake woke up, she was in a box
Help me, help me, I'm in a box!
She was happy to hear the voice of her friend
The friend she had just made, a foxy little fox

You're buried in a box, said the foxy little fox
In seven more days, you'll be starving and dead
Then I'll dig you up and free you from the box
I'll cook you up for supper to feed myself instead

Boys and girls, that's the story of the snake
the snake and her friend, the foxy little fox
A snake may be vicious, but she needs to stay awake
or else she will be eaten by her friend in a box

Take not this simply as a story of betrayal
but dig deeper and you’ll find a moral portrayal
A story of revenge, from fox to snake to farmer
A story of love, from snake to fox to farmer
