The Roses of Yesterday

September 20, 2008
By Anonymous

A single pink rose
Budding all alone
Surrounded
By falling petals
Wilting Blooms.

A single pink rose
Desolate,
Forlorn,
Yet beauty it retains.

The roses of yesterday
Have drifted away.
A single pink rose,
It's the last one.

The author's comments:
The poem is more than just about beautiful flowers. The roses, coming and going, indicate change. Everything that has a beginning has an end (except for love, I hope). Change is inevitable, and sometimes, it feels terrible. When the roses wilt, it seems that the beauty in life has dimmed. Suddenly, the bloom is gone, and you are left with thorns. But one flower will always remain, and it is the memories.
