Hospital Bed

Never thought I’d see you here,
You were always so healthy and fit.
But nothing can stay strong forever
If too many times it’s been hit.

“Act like there’s no tomorrow,”
You once said.
But it was that particular action
That put you in this bed.

Doctor says the only thing
Keeping you alive are these machines.
I still have the gift you gave me
That got lost in your favorite leather jeans.

I can’t bear to see you like this
And I know what I have to do.
Even if it’s not best for me,
I know it’s best for you.

Give me just one sign;
Let me know that you’re OK.
The doc’s here to let you go now
I guess there’s nothing left to say…

Except…

Goodbye.
