An Ode to the People

An Ode to the people who were forgotten
who were once loved and cared for

An Ode to those people
who seem like they can't get it right
like their world is crumbling inside
but fake a smile on the outside.

An Ode to their souls
that scream, "you're beautiful!"
But their minds say differently
like a devil and angel on two shoulders
one telling bad, one telling good
and listening to the bad.

And Ode to the scars
that cover their precious body
a breakaway from reality
the red marks that scream,
"HELP!"

An Ode to the depression
that builds and builds
until it covers you whole
shielding you from the world
Loosing friends, hope, yourself.
Until one day, it takes your life

An Ode to those people
who think they have no chance
who try and stay
.....
Unbroken.

The author's comments:
This piece was inspired by myself and a friend of mine who is struggling with depression, cutting, and anorexia at the moment. I wrote this for her because I went through what she's going through and I got over it. I am actually really proud of this poem and I hope others can enjoy it and look up to it for guidance. You're all beautiful.
